Headed to the Motherland

I’m super excited for my first real trip as an expat tomorrow.  I’m headed to Ireland where I will meet up with 3 of my aunts and my cousin.  So not only is it a nice trip, it will be with family that I haven’t seen in a year.  And I am pretty sure 3 of the 4 relatives I’m meeting with have never been abroad before.  I think it’s kind of amazing to be with someone their first time in another country.  You kinda remember your first time (ah, Paris) and see their excitement and get to be part of a memory they’ll always have.  I have Irish heritage, my great-grandfather was born there and my own father was able to obtain Irish Citizenship through the Grandfather Clause.  But no great-grandfather clause for me….

I’ve been to Ireland once before, it was a long weekend in Dublin when I was studying abroad.  I always joked I could never go back to Dublin because it will never be as good as it was that weekend.  It was seriously Disneyland for young, female, american, college girls.  Here’s some throwback pics…

Anyway, we won’t be going to Dublin this time.  We’ll be in the South-west touring around from Galway to Killarney to Cobh.  So I’ve set some new posts to go up during the week but I won’t be around for responses or updating in real-time about the trip.  But look forward to next week’s Ireland recap.

First off I want to say awesome blog! I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if you do not mind. I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear your head before writing. I have had a difficult time clearing my mind in getting my ideas out there.

Well, I don’t know if I do a great job at it! I kind of blabber on and get off track…but generally I write blog posts as they come up, but don’t necessarily post them at time. I also have a big list of topics I want to cover- and I add bullet points to the list as they come up to remember to include specific items. It’s trial and error, but I like lists 🙂
